Trip Overview

Gosaikunda Pass Trek is one of the exciting treks offering you the beautiful, amazing Himalayan scenery and sacred alpine lakes filled with cultural experiences. The Gosaikunda Pass Trek leads straight into the 9-day excursion featuring exclusive views of snow-capped peaks, dense forests, and clear glacial lakes. This Gosaikunda Pass Trek begins in an attractive small village called Syabrubesi. Gosaikunda Pass Trek 9 Days goes through beautiful rhododendron and pine forests, blessings from fertile, scenic villages, plus rugged trails toward sacred Gosaikunda Lake, which is sacred to Hindus and Buddhists. The trekkers can spend some time meeting Tamang and Sherpa community people along the way.

The Gosaikunda Pass Trek is probably the best in nature and significance, as it travels through varied landscapes and a great range of ecosystems, from the ascent of Lauribina Pass to the peaceful descent through the luxuriant forests of Sundarijal. Whether it is breathtaking views of Langtang and Ganesh Himal, or those tranquil images reflected off the surface of Gosaikunda waters, moments enjoyed beneath the warmth of local hospitality are surely going to leave an indelible mark. This will ideally be the trek for those with moderately gained experience-a journey that is every bit a physical challenge as a soulful escape into the grand Himalayas.

Preparation for Gosaikunda Pass Trek 9 Days

Permits and Regulations

You must obtain two major permits: a Langtang National Park Entry Permit and a TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card to go to Gosaikunda Pass Trek. Since this trek revolves around the premises of Langtang National Park, a protected wildlife area, you must get a permit to enter.

Langtang National Park Entry Permit has a price of NPR 3000 for international trekkers, NPR 1000 for SAARC Nationals, and NPR 100 for Nepalese trekkers. Similarly, you can get a TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) Card at NPR 3000 per person. To get these permits, you can submit the documents, such as photocopies of your passport, visa, photographs, and fees at the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu.

Guides and Porters during Gosaikunda Pass Trek

It would be very useful to hire experienced guides and porters for trekking so that you could have a much safer and more enjoyable journey. Besides guiding the way through the narrow trails, a local guide would also provide valuable information about the history and culture of the region, along with its natural landmarks. They even help you to manage permits, keep you safe and provide solutions when things go wrong, like altitude sickness or bad weather.

Porters, on the other hand, come with heavy loads and allow you to stroll comfortably with just a day pack. Generally, two trekkers share 10 to 25 kg carried by a porter. Hiring local guides and porters also acts as a supplement for the local economy while establishing a stronger link with the communities through which you are passing. Ensure that they are well equipped to face any circumstance and treat them with all deserving respect for the very role they play in your adventure.

Best time for Gosaikunda Pass Trek

In the Spring (February/March to May/June) when the rhododendrons, the national flower of Nepal, are in bloom. Also in the Fall (September to November/December) or Post-Monsoon when the weather is temperate and the skies are clear.

Gosaikunda Pass Trek Difficulty

The Gosaikunda Pass Trek 9 Days is a moderate to strenuous trek that offers a unique combination of natural beauty, cultural immersion, and high-altitude adventure. Along the way, trekkers can enjoy the local culture and hospitality of the Tamang people, who are the indigenous residents of the region. The Gosaikunda Pass Trek is also an excellent opportunity to see a variety of flora and fauna, including rhododendron forests and rare species of birds and animals.

Communication and Internet

While going on the Gosaikunda Pass Trek, communication and internet facilities are available but may be limited in remote areas. Despite this, local tea houses can be found in popular villages such as Syabrubesi, Sing Gompa, and Chisapani, where Wi-Fi is sometimes available for a small fee. However, poor connectivity is guaranteed because of rugged terrains. Mobile operators such as Ncell and Nepal Telecom provide coverage in some areas. Still, the signal may get weak or even disappear at higher altitudes, such as Gosaikunda or Lauribina Pass. Guides or trekking companies use satellite phones for emergencies, and you can also purchase them for personal use.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is an absolute condition for trekking the Langtang and Gosaikunda Pass regions. It protects you against unforeseen circumstances that may create issues in a remote mountain terrain. The standards of policies should include high-altitude trekking (5,000m or above) and also compulsory emergency evacuation by helicopter in case of altitude-related sickness, injuries or other medical emergencies.

Moreover, travel insurance must cover possible trip cancellations, lost luggage, and delays attributed to unexpected weather conditions or logistics. Please check your particular policy terms before setting off and get a physical or digital copy of your insurance documents.

Accommodation and Food during Gosaikunda Pass Trek

Local families run the teahouses along the Langtang with Gosaikunda Pass Trek, offering simple yet warm lodges. Accommodation during the 9 days trek typically involves staying in these teahouses. These teahouses offer a cozy bed with common bathrooms and dining areas for a truly Himalayan trekking experience. As you ascend, the facilities get rarer but are consistent with the warm affection of the welcome with which locals will treat you.

Food in teahouses ranges from local Nepali dishes such as dal bhat to international favorites-pasta, noodles, and pancakes. Meals, packed with calories, provide energy to the body for trekking. Drinking water is available, but it needs purification or boiling before consumption; it is best to carry water purification tablets or other options like built-in filters.

    Detailed Itinerary

Kathmandu will be the first destination as you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport. Kathmandu welcomes you with vibrant streets and the ancient forms of life blended into modernism. A representative from Mountain Treks Nepal will pick up and escort you to your hotel, where you can rest for the remaining time of the day. Or you can find your way to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, which include the famous Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple) or the crowd favorite Kathmandu Durbar Square, the house of centuries-old palaces and courtyards.

The colorful markets in this city sell handcrafted things, prayer flags, and spices of the Himalayas. You can let yourself be amazed by the aroma of incense while walking through Asan Bazaar and Thamel while having the peaceful ringing with the sounds of temple bells, and you’ll know the spiritual essence of this ancient city.

There are excellent shops for trekking gear as well as cozy cafes in Kathmandu that allow you to relax before your adventure. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

On the second day of the Gosaikunda Pass Trek 9 Days, you will take a drive early in the morning from a busy capital and then move towards Syabrubesi. It’s a delightful little village that marks the start of your trek. This wonderful 7-8 hours journey is scenic and also thrilling, with the wavy road having its spins and bends showing off beautiful terraced fields for miles around, rushing rivers, and distant snow-capped peaks in the background. There are several towns like Battar, Dhunche, and others as you drive through the countryside part of Nuwakot and Rasuwa District.

The Trishuli River Valley is mostly along this route with a beautiful blue river that sparkles under the sun. Ongoing higher up, the horizon gets dominated by the mountainous peaks of Langtang, which creates anxiety about what is awaiting ahead.

Soon, upon reaching Syabrubesi, you will notice the calm atmosphere of this Tamang village. Overnight stay in a local teahouse in Syabrubesi, the starting point of Gosaikunda Pass Trek.

Today, your adventure begins from Syabrubesi to Sing Gompa, also known as Chandanbari. The trail goes through dense thickets of oak, rhododendron, and pine. On the way, you can encounter wildlife like langurs and various bird species that live in this high-altitude environment.

As you travel further up, the beauty of the terrain becomes considerable. You will cross small settlements, and friendly and welcoming locals will greet you with sweet smiles. Sometimes, you may catch some glimpses of the Langtang Himal; these glimpses appear with some modification prior to enjoying the beauty of views that unfold ahead.

As you set your foot in Sing Gompa, you can feel the ambiance of Ancient Tibetan Buddhism. Also, you can spare your time to visit a traditional cheese factory. Spend time in this monastery, where prayer flags flutter in the mountain breeze, and taste the yak cheese that is produced in the area. Overnight stay at Sing Gompa.

The fourth day of the Gosaikunda Pass Trek begins with a real adventure to Gosaikunda Lake. The real highlight of trekking is at Gosaikunda Lake, an important pilgrimage center for Hindus as well as for Buddhists. The path ascends through beautiful but harsh alpine meadows and a rugged landscape. At the same time, the views of the Ganesh and Langtang Himal ranges can be the most beautiful.

The beautiful lake becomes visible beyond jagged peaks as the approach to Gosaikunda takes shape. It has long held a very special spiritual heritage as a glacial lake, formed, perhaps, by Lord Shiva. Its ambient aura and clear waters make it ideal for rest.

You can enjoy some time exploring Gosaikunda Lake, which is considered one of Lord Shiva’s residences. Overnight beside the lake under a starry Himalayan sky is something unforgettable.

Today, you will cross the Lauribina Pass (4,610m), the highest altitude of the trek, and it can be both challenging and rewarding. The steep climb to the pass tests your stamina, but the majestic views of Langtang, Ganesh, and even the Annapurna ranges are worth every step of the way.

The track has now become a rough walk over huge boulders and alpine meadows. It is indeed mesmerizing to feel this solitude of nature. The further you go, the more the scenery changes into bamboo and pine forests.

Gopte is a cool place bordered by green trees. It makes for a great place to rest after a tiring day, with the friendly teahouses within earshot. You will spend overnight at a local tea house enjoying traditional Nepali cuisine at Gopte.

The trail continues downwards today and, of course, has its associated challenges coupled with the rewards. After Gopte, the town and the trail leading back to Gopte are completely mixed in thick, deep forests of oak, rhododendron, and bamboo. The combination of the coolness of the shadows under the trees with the occasional mountain view peeking through the cover gives a surprisingly tranquil experience while trekking.

As you descend, the trail goes through small villages and some more isolated settlements, giving a small glimpse into the lives of the Tamang and Sherpa peoples. The terraced fields and the traditional stone houses in these villages all tell about the bond of these people’s relationships with their nature. When you reach Kutumsang, you will meet a very lovely hillside village shrouded in lush green hills and farther away mountains.

Combined with the hospitality of the locals, this makes this really warm and welcoming stop a great place to spend the night.

The seventh day of the Gosaikunda Pass Trek brings us to Chisapani from Kutumsang. Chisapani is connected by a trail that is a thrill ride of a series of ups and downs, mixing ridges, forests, and open meadows in the process. The horizon then opens up as you ascend into heights where breathtaking views of Langtang, Ganesh, and Jugal Himal rise in the north, with the Kathmandu Valley sprawled below in the south.

The day’s trek leads through lively landscapes with plenty of wildflowers interspersed with little streams. You will encounter more settlements, with each one-to-one collection offering a particular view into the unique styles of traditional lifestyles of mountain communities.

Chisapani, which translates to “cold water,” stands on the ridge and is a destination that trekkers flock to to catch the best of sunrises and sunsets. You can rest in one of the village tea houses tonight enjoying a warm dinner.

Today, you will enjoy the most out of the Gosaikunda Pass Trek as you have already been around the last part of the journey. The trail takes you through the Shivapuri National Park, endowed with rich biodiversity and lush green forests. The way leads down at intervals by the side of a few views of the Kathmandu valley, coming slowly out into view.

As you descend through Shivapuri National Park, the trail leads to Sundarijal, a place well-known for its waterfalls. This tranquil environment is the right way to end your trekking journey so that you can get along with memories of amazing landscapes and culture over the past week.

A short distance from Sundarijal, one gets into the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu by driving. Here you can feast on local specialties, and visit its markets or cultural heritage sites while celebrating the success of the trek. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Your journey ends as you prepare to take the flight out from Kathmandu with a memory of leaving the majestic Himalayas and the cultural richness of Nepal. You may spend time making the last rounds of the city or just taking it easy for the day, and this day must serve as the perfect reflection.

Our representative from Mountain Treks Nepal will help you reach Tribhuvan International Airport. From there, you will board a plane towards your home country full of beautiful memories around Langtang and Gosaikunda Region.

      Langtang - Gosaikunda trek

We were a group of 7 people who booked the trip with Mountain trek Nepal for the Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Trek. Some of us had been to Nepal before and done to the Everest Base Camp Trek with this agency so we also decided to joined mountain treks Nepal.

Our guide Raj and his assistants Ramsh and rajesh attended to our every need and we would highly recommend them for treks in Nepal. Some of us had previously had Raj as our guide in the past EBC trekking and knew that he would do everything possible to make our trek amazing, safe, comfortable, and funny.

Raj provided us with information and so interesting things day by day, noting how many hours of walking would be required, how is the path, lunch places , the required amount of drinking water, and the Necessary clothing for the given day’s weather conditions and altitude, altitude sickness etc…

I would highly recommend Mountain treks Nepal, as well as Raj for anyone we are planning to trek in Nepal.
