Overview of Everest Expedition
Mount Everest (Sagarmatha) is the highest peak in the world standing at an elevation of 8848 meters (29028 ft.) above sea level. Sir Edmund Hillary and Late Tenzing Norge Sherpa first summited this peak on May 29, 1953, via the South Col, after a long relentless effort. Everest Base Camp is located in the north of Khumbu region at a height of 18000 ft. All the international climbers assemble here during the starting of climbing and at the ending of their climbing. Generally, the duration of Everest expedition is almost more than 59 days, and it can last up to about 65 days.
Mt. Everest climbing has proved to be a standard of climbing attainment. The mountain receives around 1000 summit attempts every year. Mt. Everest can be climbed both from the southern side Nepal and northern side Tibet. The southern approach to the mountain is through the Khumbu Valley, which became very popular among the climbers. Everest expeditions encounter many seen and unseen obstacles which include high altitude, harsh weather condition and even sheer exhaustion.
Start of Everest Expedition
The expedition trip starts from Kathmandu and flies to Lukla. It will take five to six days to reach in Everest Chinese Base Camp which is at 5,400 m. About the climbing route, camp 1 at 20000 ft. (6,400 m) is situated in the flat area of endless snow deep crevasses and mountain walls. Camp 2 at 21000 ft. (6,750 m), which is located at the foot of the icy mount Lhotse wall.
Camp 3 at 22300 ft. (7,100 m) adjoining the Mount Lhotse wall. Camp 4 at 26000 ft. (8,400 m) is the last camp of the Expedition. From here summit is about 500 m, a distance far and is the final and dangerous part of the climbing.
