Trip Overview
The Everest Base Camp Trek 14 Days is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful treks in the world. It takes you to the foothills of the highest mountain on Earth – Everest, through the stunning Khumbu region in Nepal. The Everest Base Camp Trek starts with an early morning flight to Lukla (2,860m). It encompasses traditional sherpa lodges of Phakding and Namche Bazaar, the local yaks, and surrounding mountains- Thamserku, Ama Dablam and Everest. The 14 Days EBC trek incorporates necessary rest days for acclimatization as well as sights such as the Tengboche Monastery, allowing trekkers to experience the rich Buddhist culture as well as the traditions of the Sherpas.
The 14 Days Everest Base Camp Trek’s highlights are the Everest Base Camp (5,364m) and the Kala Patthar (5,545m), which are stunning scene points within the Everest massif region, especially of the Khumbu glacier. It is a moderate to fully demanding trek that requires a level of fitness and a gradual acclimatization process, with treks each day averaging 5 to 7 hours. Trek to Everest Base Camp comes together as a fully satisfying Himalayan adventure, providing cinematic views of the world’s higher mountains, sherpa culture, and conquering Everest Base.
Preparation For Everest Base Camp Trek 14 Days
Guides and Porters
Guides are the integral part of the Everest Base Camp Trek 14 Days. They help in making treks safe, navigable, and logistically appropriate for trekkers. Through their knowledge of the area, guides can help navigate the EBC trail, managing pace and giving much information about local culture and landscapes. Their experience helps trekkers to avoid the risks of altitude sickness, unmarked trails, etc., thus making the journey both safer and enriching.
Porters usually act as back-up carriers of heavy loads to trekkers. Because of this, trekkers can get time and energy for the necessary acclimatization and benefits from the experience without too much physical stress.
Permits for 14 Days Everest Base Camp Trek
The first permit you will need is the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit, which allows you to visit the famous Sagarmatha National Park. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sagarmatha National Park holds some of the world’s finest scenic beauty with Mount Everest, dense rhododendron forests, and different forms of wildlife such as musk deer and Himalayan monals. The fee for this permit is NPR 3,000, for international trekkers, NPR 1000 for SAARC nationals, and NPR 100 for the Nepalese trekkers.
Besides, you also must obtain the Pasang Lhamu Municipality Entry Permit, which costs NPR 3,000 for all trekkers. The name Pasang Lhamu for this municipality pays tribute to the first Nepali woman to summit Mount Everest ‘Pasang Lhamu Sherpa.’
Best Time for Everest Base Camp Trek
March to April in Spring and September to December in Fall is the suitable time of the year for Everest Base Camp Trekking. Every little thing is simply best at these times of the year. You do not need to bother with unstable weather condition as well as unclear views. The environment remains moderate, with temperature levels ranging from 15 ° C to 0 ° C or below. And the blossoms in the Spring charm the path while the Fall scenery mean celebrations in the endeavor.
Accommodation During The Everest Base Camp Trek
A local teahouse is a popular form of lodge, which is available all along the route while doing the Everest Base Camp Trek 14 Days. These are locally established teahouses, which are small family-operated lodges offering sound accommodation on the trekking trail. A standard room of a teahouse provides two beds with blankets and sometimes a shared simple bath with a shower.
Most visitors who go for this trek either sleep in lodges in Lukla before or after the trek. The lodges in Lukla provide comfortable rooms with attached bathrooms, hot water facilities, and wireless internet connection. These hotels offer comfort for you to rest and recuperate once your trekking is done and therefore are ideal to begin as well as to end your Everest Base Camp Trek.
Drinking Water
Water is very important during the trek, and it is possible to get it from several sources while on the Everest Base Camp Trek 14 Days. It is also easily available for purchase at most of the teahouses, shops, and stores en route to the trekking trail. This is the most convenient method since you can get bottled water from any shop; however, the price of water rises with the altitude, and it isn’t easy to transport commodities to higher regions. In addition, to minimize plastic usage in these isolated zones, we provide suggestions to trekkers on how to use eco-friendly materials.
Whenever you are selecting to use tap or natural water sources like streams and rivers, you should treat the water before use to prevent waterborne diseases. The other survival tips include using a hydration filter or water purifying tablets as a means of ensuring that the water is safe for drinking.
Communication and Internet
Means of communication and the Internet can be severely limited during the trek to Everest Base Camp. Today, most of the teahouses and lodges are equipped with the most basic communication facilities; however, the quality and the efficiency of these services may differ significantly. On the whole, in the case of important communication or in case of emergency, it is highly recommended that you should carry a satellite phone. This way, you always have a way of being contacted at any given time, irrespective of where you are, and it may be very handy, especially in emergencies.
For the Internet, one has to buy an NCell or NTC SIM card on arrival in Nepal. These SIM cards offer data bundles that keep you connected during your trek. You can use them to stay online while exploring the trails. Remember that coverage is not always continuous, especially if you are in a region with mountains and are moving up in altitude.
Travel Insurance
Getting travel and trekking insurance for the Everest Base Camp Trek of 14 Days is very important for a stress-free adventure. This is because trekking at high altitudes is high risk and exposes one to a lot of unpredictable conditions that may include altitude sickness, injury or trip interruption.
Comprehensive insurance helps you from loss and ensures access to essential support. Most importantly, it covers medical treatment, evacuation, and other foreign assistance when needed. Although Mountain Treks Nepal does not provide these services, it is convenient for one to purchase travel insurance from third parties such as MetLife, Allianz, World Trips, and others.
Everest Base Camp Trek Difficulty
14 Days EBC trip is a moderate trek, but for new travelers, the trek can get hard because of long hours of walking and also descents through rich forests and also steep, rugged paths. Physical fitness is must to trek Everest Base Camp. Also, our Everest Base Camp Trek travel plan will make certain you are having enough adequate day of rest in between the trek to prevent altitude sickness. Keep yourself hydrated and also do not consume alcohols or smoke before or during the trek.

Detailed Itinerary
Today is the first day of the Everest Base Camp Trek 14 Days. You will arrive in Kathmandu at Tribhuvan International Airport, from where our representative will pick you and transfer to the hotel.
You will receive detailed briefings about this trek and then with preparation. Overnight stay in a hotel.
Your journey to the Everest Base Camp Trek 14 Days starts with a breathtaking flight to the world’s one of the highest and most dangerous airports, Kathmandu to Lukla. Tenzing Norgay Airport in Lukla awaits you with a view of snow-capped mountains around it. Upon reaching Lukla, the cool mountain breeze and the phenomenal sights will add up excitement in the journey.
Then our journey from Lukla to Phakding starts. The trail is relatively gentle that stretches along the Dudh Koshi River and through several Sherpa Villages. You will pass through two Buddhist settlements of Chheplung and Nurning before reaching Phakding.
The chilling scenes of prayer flags, prayer wheels, chortens, and mani walls will take your breath away for sure. It takes around 3 to 4 hours from Lukla to reach Phakding, where you will be accommodated at a tea house, enjoying the taste of local cuisine, including Dal, Bhaat, and Tarkari.
This is the second day of the 14 Days Everest Base Camp Trek in Khumbu Valley. This is the section where excitement and adventure come alive within you, as you hike into the Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The route goes through rhododendron and pinewood forests, suspension bridges clattering over wild rivers, and friendly locals in Sherpa villages.
As you walk across the famous Hillary Bridge, the landscape widens to reveal terraced farms and the outline of mountains in the distance. Upon reaching Namche Bazaar, you will be welcomed by the wide views of Everest and its surrounding peaks like Nuptse, thanks to their breathtaking sunsets. Namche also dubbed the ‘Gateway to Everest’ is a lively tow Lhotse, Thamserku, and others.
Namche is a bustling countryside town with numerous shops, eateries, and handicraft stores. A perfect place to get used to the altitude as well as the culture of the Sherpas.
Namche bazaar has an altitude of 3,440 meters and is located at the center of the Himalayan ranges in Nepal, making it the best place for acclimatization during the trip to the Everest Base Camp. It is highly encouraged that one spends time here due to the high altitude and the associated risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) that threatens all trekkers.
For instance, spending a day or two in Namche prepares the body for low levels of oxygen besides increasing the chances of successful ascent and the completion of the trek even at higher altitudes. Besides, the flora and fauna, the people, their vibrant culture, and in particular, the local Turkish-style artifacts, shops, and the fantastic view of Namche makes this place a lovely stopping point.
Proceeding on from Namche, the trail starts to rise again with breathtaking sights of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. We then reach Phunke Tenga village in between the trail after a few hours of trek. A bit of a walk then, we will reach the beautiful Sherpa village of Tengboche.
The renowned Tengboche monastery is situated in Tengboche, which is regarded as one of the key religious hubs in this area. It is out of this world to see the view of the monastery right underneath the twin peaks of Everest along with other mountains, more so it is a spectacle to behold in the morning or evening prayers when the monks are heard chanting their old mantras. The green hills surrounding are a good point to relax and think of what has taken place already in the course of the expedition.
The landscape starts to change in the section beyond Tengboche and the incline of the paths increases. You have to cross the Imja Khola River and walk up through deep valleys and high mountains. As you walk uphill through the trail and near Dingboche, the rugged scenery with dry and thin air is clearly experienced.
Dingboche is a Sherpa village with great views of Ama Dablam and many other mountain ranges. This place has a clear view of Ama Dablam that is much nearer and looking more exaggerated than wait. It is also a good place for rest as there are several hikes in and around this place including one that goes to Nangkartshang Peak with lovely views of Makalu, the world’s fifth tallest mountain.
Today, you will rest and acclimatize in Dingboche as you have already been over 4500 meters above sea level. While acclimatizing, remember to follow these rules:
- Hike up, sleep low
- Enough hydration
- Proper nutrition
- Enough Sleep
If you have medical conditions, you must have safety measures based on that. Some trekkers even use Diamox to get rid of altitude sickness.
As you walk from Dingboche to Lobuche, you will be reaching one of the highest altitudes in the Khumbu region at 4,940 meters above sea level. Here, you must be very careful about how you hike, as your physical exhaustion can easily lead to altitude sickness. As the elevation rises, you will also enjoy the views of Tawache and Cholatse Peak, despite the risks.
Before you reach Lobuche, you must pass through a gravely terminal moraine of the Khumbu Glacier and also cross Thokla Pass at 4,830 meters above sea level. Lobuche is itself a small settlement languishing under the towering peaks of Nuptse and Pumori. Overnight stay at a tea house in Lobuche.
After Lobuche, the next ascent will be towards the Gorak Shep. This is the last settlement in the Khumbu region, which stands alone on a bare sandy plain but presents a dramatic backdrop against the peaks around.
From Gorakshep, you march out to Everest Base Camp itself, right on the Khumbu Glacier. The whole experience is surreal and emotional as one gazes at towering walls of ice under the dread shadow of Everest, surrounded by them. During the climbing season, you probably see colourful tents dotting up the glacier, and thousands of climbers prepare themselves to be in action.
From the Everest Base Camp, you will have a magnificent view of Mt. Everest itself, surrounded by the scenery of Mt. Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and more from the Mahalangur Mountain Range. After exploring the base camp, we will return to Gorak Shep for an overnight stay.
You will begin your day before dawn as you ascend to Kala Patthar. This is the highest point at which one can scale for a view of Mount Everest, and it boasts incredible 360-degree views of the Mahalangur Range. Not only this, but the early rise gives you a chance to see the first light striking against Everest’s summit.
Standing alone at 5,545 meters, this viewpoint is not only one of the most famous of the trek but also one of the most enchanting. From here, you look out over Everest, Nuptse, and Lhotse, framed by a vast, vibrant sky with some spectacular views stretching across the Khumbu Valley and surrounding ranges.
Take this very unique panorama before descending back to Gorak Shep and down again to Pheriche where the scape gives way to a familiar alpine green. Overnight stay at Pheriche.
On the eleventh day of Everest Base Camp 14 Days, we will descend down from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar. The trekking route will take us through the hills full of beautiful forests and no wonder what Ama Dablam offers is quite a scene up on the horizon.
And Namche Bazaar arrives again. Here, you will get a time to treat yourself, so go ahead and spend some time basking in one of these warm little cafes and bakeries, enjoying the life and energy of the Sherpa town.
The trail descends to Lukla and takes the same windy path from Namche. Familiar sights and sounds come along the way: crossing a series of suspension bridges, passing through delightful villages, winding through the dense pine and cedar forest.
The whole trip will be essentially over as one step into Lukla, but memories of those mountains, the atmosphere of Sherpa culture, and all the other trekkers sounding off feel absolutely fantastic.
After completing the Everest Base Camp Trek 14 Days, we will fly back to Tribhuvan International Airport from Tenzing Norgay Airport in Lukla. It takes 45 minutes to reach Kathmandu, after which you will be escorted to your hotel. You can either explore the lively towns of Kathmandu or simply rest at your hotel.
Today is the last day of your stay in Nepal. Our representative from Mountain Treks Nepal will escort you to Tribhuvan International Airport. You will onboard a flight to your home afterwards.
