Mustang Tiji Festival Trek is one of the most important and colourful festivals of the upper Mustang region. In the upper Mustang (Lo Mustang), they celebrate a three-day ritual. Tiji is the kind of festival that exists the word ‘ten che’ represent “the hope of Buddha dharma” presenting in the world and as every other festival celebrates the success victory of god over evil. They celebrate the Tiji festival annually in Lo Manthang, believing it started in the 15th century during the time of Lama Lowo Khenchen. Mustang Tiji Festival trek is suitable for spritual travel to the Annapurna Himalaya.
“The Chasing of the Demons,” known as the Mustang Tiji festival, centers on the Tiji myth. It is said that the diving being named Dorje Jono who must battle against his demon father to save the Kingdom of Mustang from destruction. It is celebrated as asking God for water and good crops. Villagers from all over the ancient kingdom of Mustang come to watch the dance of monks with masks and traditional dress which supposedly drive the evil spirits away.
The Mustang Tiji Festival trek is an exotic tour of ancient Tibetan Villages, rare medieval Buddhist arts, unique beauty of the Himalayan desert, the exotic culture, ochre valley, yak caravans, colourful- painted mud brick houses, arid valleys, the majestic mountain of Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna etc. The journey starts from Jomsom enjoying the natural diversity of the villages of Kagbeni, Chele, Ghiling and Chharang to Lo-Manthang.
